It’s a marathon not a sprint!
Up earlier than usual today 4:11 AM and my mind started racing on how I would approach my day productively.
Will it be more networking (being ghosted a lot this week), but I understand as many people are likely worried about their own situation right now, training? (I just completed a LinkedIn course yesterday, another one on artificial intelligence-AI) or researching companies and applying for more jobs?
Note: Watch out with AI as you know it’s not completely accurate. I just used it to find out what hockey teams in the NHL haven’t ever won the Stanley Cup and the Florida Panthers were still mentioned. We all know they won for the first time in 2024, so AI is a year behind in some areas yet. Always fact check your results from AI.
Anyway.
It’s day 42 in my job search and I just received another rejection notification from a job application at 12:36 AM this morning. It’s the only thing consistent in my life at the moment (rejection), so I am going to keep applying, because there is nothing more exciting than filling out an application, attach your resume and then have to fill out and repeat everything on your resume on the application again with exception if you are male or female (sometimes there are more options), race, a veteran, what you did last night, etc.
If you haven’t applied to a job lately you may not know all the fun, you are missing.
I know let AI do it.
I am tracking all my applications as I work toward finding my next opportunity in Excel and will be creating a dashboard in Power BI eventually to keep a visual of where I was at this moment in my life as a reminder when I do get another job.
I heard May is going to be another challenging month for job seekers, so for anyone searching for a job “keep at it” regardless of how difficult it will be.
“Be Resilient!”
I think I am going to mow the lawn today instead to change it up on a Friday.
How I miss my lawn service! Cutting back on things until I find another job is difficult.
Actually, I was mowing my own lawn when I had a job. It’s awesome to have a lawn service, but they always scalped certain areas and didn’t meet my minimal quality standards. I prefer to do it myself and get the exercise plus I get all the lines in the lawn straight. Last week it was 3.32 miles for me in approximately 46 minutes with a push mower during a portion of it.
I am grateful to have a lawn.
Hopefully you have some sort of a pedometer to track your activities even if it’s just a walk i.e. a Key Process Indicator (KPI) to track your progress and keep you motivated.
Trying to keep using job terms to stay sharp, so I will add this to my PowerPoint presentation by end of business today.
It feels like an accomplishment during all the rejection.
Mowing the lawn is a sprint.
Rock on!
